Attenda employees have two performance appraisals per year which are followed up with a salary review. Each year Attenda give an inflationary salary increase to employees (3% increase in 2009 - 2.5% in 2008). Twice a year we benchmark salaries against external data sourced through Radford Consulting to ensure salaries are competitive. The Christmas party is funded by Attenda as another means of thanking employees for their contribution through-out the year. Annually their benefits (pension, healthcare, Life Assurance, EAP, and Income Replacement Insurance) are reviewed to ensure they remain relevant and ahead of competitors. They have had a "Making People Matter" objective running over the last two years to look at introducing further benefits (Bike to Work, Volunteer Days, Payroll Giving, and enhanced Maternity). Every Manager has a 'pot' of £5 per person per month to use as they want for team and individual recognition. They provide free tea, coffee, coke, fruit, milk and breakfast cereals to keep people happy.
The organisation holds fortnightly breakfast meetings with the CEO. The CEO and all executive and senior managers are based in the same office location as employees. Open plan offices with directors as part of teams. They have a paper based suggestion scheme to get all employees ideas and feedback. Each Friday two executives bring the drinks around to the employees. The CEO is an active member in the quarterly Curry Club and several senior managers arrange the informal drinks after each of the quarterly company meetings. The founder of the organisation has a very open and interactive style. He communicates directly with all levels across the organisation.
Attenda have an interactive APM (Attenda Process Map) which maps and details all of the processes and supporting documents across the whole business. The intranet and Document Management System provides a portal into all aspects of this HR and business systems teams work directly and closely with other functions. Management development programmes are available with a range of options. One of their training suppliers provides their soft skills training. They enrol all new managers and supervisors on a number of different courses to aid them. They are working with Kingston University on an innovative new learning programme and four Attenda employees have recently enrolled in this foundation degree course. The Attenda HR Director is one of the formal mentors on the programme. They provide adhoc programmes of internal development (e.g. Finance for non-financial managers - 1 day programme. Line managers perform a strong role in coaching their teams however across the business they also have mentors who support staff in their personal and professional development. Attenda employees are associated with a number of external groups and professional bodies who are able to offer mentoring and coaching through their networks.
