To help you gauge how a company performs within the eight key workplace factors, here are some Killer Questions. Don't worry, no one will actually die if you ask them at your interview. But get the answers and you'll know if the position has any life in it and if the organisation's values fit your own.

    • Are there opportunities for the leader and senior management to listen to staff?
    • How are the values of the organisation reflected in the actions and style of the senior management?
    • How do the leadership communicate with the employees?

  • MY COMPANY
    • What makes you proud to work for this company?
    • What makes this company unique to work for?
    • How are employees encouraged to provide ideas for the wider development of the company?

  • PERSONAL GROWTH
    • How could I expect to progress within the company in the next three years?
    • What learning opportunities are available for someone in this role?
    • How will my performance be reviewed, and how frequently?

  • MY MANAGER
    • Who is my line manager? Can I meet them?
    • What management training do you have in place?
    • How do managers here support staff?

  • MY TEAM
    • How does the company promote a team environment?
    • What opportunities exist for teams across the organisation to interact together?
    • Can I meet the team?

  • GIVING SOMETHING BACK
    • Are there any ways in which the organisation works with the local community?
    • What, if any, policies do you have in place concerning environmental issues?
    • Are there any ways in which the company supports individuals in their own charitable work, and if so what are they?

  • FAIR DEAL
    • How do pay and benefits compare to sector averages?
    • Is there a structured pay review system, if so can you talk me through it?
    • Are there any unique ways in which the organisation rewards commitment and effort?

  • WELLBEING
    • How does your staff turnover compare to others in this sector?
    • What systems are in place for flexible working?
    • What do you do to encourage work/life balance and to ensure staff remain motivated?
